  Guadalupe Canyon Hot Springs Atotonilco Hot Springs - A short drive from Puerto Escondido while take you to the stables in the village of San Jose on the bank of the Manialtepic river. From here you will venture on horseback along the river enjoying the trees and nature, until you reach the hotsprings. The Atotonilco Hot springs are thermal waters adjacent to the river. Soak and unwind as the curative water do there magic.
Chacahua Lagoons - Just a short drive north of Manialtepic is the village of Cacalotepic. This is where you will find a guide and rent a pangas (boat) to take you through the lagoon to Chacahua. The logoon is filled with century old strangler trees. See amazing birdlife like wood storks, ibis and others. After about 45 minutes you arrive at Chacahua here you can swim in the bay or ocean. There is excellent surfing and accommodations as well as fresh seafood.
Manialtepec Lagoons - This lagoon is filled with mangroves, tropical vegitation and a myriad of water birds. You will rent a kayak and a guide will take you through the mangroves where you will see exotic birds such as Tiger heron, Roseate Spoonbill, white fronted parrot, egrets, ibis and pelicans. The tour will wind up at Playa Lagarto where you will enjoy breathtaking mountain and sea views. The lagoon is located just a short drive North of Puerto Escondido.
Mazunte - Turtle Museum located about an hour drive from Puerto Escondido. This large Turtle Assistance Ecological Camp is designed to protect sea turtles and prevent extinction and displays a variety of sea turtles that inhabit Mexico's shores. There is and admission cost, however the cost goes to preserving turles. At the museum you will learn about the turtle and if you happen to go there during the right time you may even see baby turtles hatching.
Puerto Angelito - Located next to Playa Manzanillo this is small beach with a small acess road, but mostly traveled by boat. It is a peaceful beach where you can escape the crowds of Playa Marinero. Here there are several restaurants and lounge chairs for sun bathing. Enjoy swimming, diving and other water activities.
  Playa Carrizalillo - This is a semi private beach located north of Puerto Angelito. The only accommodations here are either vacation rentals or villas. If you stay here you will enjoy an almost privite beach, perfect for swimming or snorkeling. There is a road that will take you to town, however it is visited mostly by boat.
Playa Manzanillo - This is a small cove located right nex to Puerto Angelito. Here there a several small restaurants that will cook the fish taht you caught. It is a peaceful beach where you can escape the crowds of Playa Marinero. There a no hotels on this beach and it is accesible by boat for the main part. There is a small road that leads here. Enjoy swimming, snorkeling and other water activities.
  Playa Marinero - Playa Marinero, a 200-meter long beach, is located between Playa Principal and Playa Zicatela. It is the main beach in town and on weekends it gets packed with locals. This beach is where you can hire a boat for fishing, turtle tours and cruises. If you dont like crowds than you might want to avoid this beach. The land is lined with restaurants and hotels.
  Playa Principal - This beach is also one of the main beaches in Puerto Escondido. The sand is covered with pangas (boats) Everywhere you look there are fisherman perched waiting for tourists that might show a glew of interests. They will take you out fishing or for a tour of all the beaches. Some of the guides speak English. Not much of a beach for hanging out or sun bathing.
Playa Zicatela - This is the reason why most people come to Puerto Escondido. Playa Zicatela or "Mexican Pipeline" as the surfers and locals call it,It is the main surfing area for Puerto Escondido, attracting surfers from all over the world, and is the site of annual surfing competitions in August and November. This heavy wave peels both right and left and it can get upwards of 20 feet. The under toe make it very dangerous for swimming and many swimmers and surfers have downed at this spot.
Ventanilla Lagoon -This is a crocodile refuge. Vanatanillo got its name by a rock that has a hole through it and it looks like a window. Here you will pay a guide that will row you around the lagoon. According to the guide the lagoon is home to over a hundred crocodiles some are very large and the will swim right by the boat. The local only feed them at night when there are no tourists around. There are also several tropical birds and green iguanas.
