The State of Yucatán is the name of one of the 31 states of Mexico located in the north of the Yucatan Peninsula. It borders the states of Campeche to the south west, Quintana Roo to the east and southeast, and the Gulf of Mexico to the north and west. Often Yucatan the state gets confused with the Yucatan Peninsula. The Yucatan Peninsula or just Yucatan refers to the three states on the peninsula: Yucatan, Campeche, and Quintana Roo; all three modern states were formerly part of the larger historic state of Yucatán in the 19th century. Yucatan is packed with history, it lies in the heart of the once mayan civilization. Despite modern advances Yucatan still demonstrates a unique culture from the rest of Mexico, including its own style of food, rooted from local Mayan culture. The state of Yucatan offers many areas of interest to visitors, including famous maya archaeological sites such as Chichen Itza and Uxmal to sandy beach towns, colonial cities and natural reserves.....
